What is Krewe de La Jonction?
Krewe de La Jonction was created in 1996 as a fundraiser for the Arnaudville Area Chamber of Commerce and a way to celebrate the tradition of Mardi Gras “Cajun Style”. Since then, membership has grown to include not only people from Arnaudville, but people from all around
South Louisiana. As far as Bunkie,
Lake Charles, and
Baton Rouge! Now we have our very own website (which you can check out by visiting www.krewedelajonction.com).
In the summer “The Krewe” has a social. This is when the King and Queen are introduced, past royalty is recognized, members get to sign up for the court, (you pick a character you would like to portray at the ball) eat, drink, and be merry with fellow members. Door prizes are given out at this social. Last year we had LSU umbrellas, koozies, and other fun stuff.
Then, in February, the Krewe Ball (which will be 3 Saturday’s before Fat Tuesday) festivities take place. On this night, Royalty comes out then the show begins with fellow members entertaining the crowds with their rendition of something relative to the theme of the night. Last year the theme was “Dancing With the Stars.” We had “Gene Simmons, Jerry Springer & Cloris Leachman, Sarah Evans & John O’Hurley, Jennifer Lopez & Richard Gere, Donnie & Marie”, with Judges “T-Joe Badeaux from Plaquemine Parish, Madea, Lady Gaga, and Pill Poppin’ Paula Abdul.” Needless to say Madea and T-Joe Badeaux were rivals the whole night and Paula kept rambling on! After the show is over, members dance the night away to their favorite tunes provided by a local DJ. Drinks of all nature are available for purchase (no outside drinks brought in) for your enjoyment. Cocktail/Formal dress code strictly enforced, so please do not show up in jeans and t-shirt on this night. (It’s OK for the Summer Social).
So what are the benefits of membership? You are assured a reserved place at the ball. You receive a FREE ticket to the Ball. You are reserved 4 guest tickets to the ball until February 1 and may purchase more tickets after February 1st if available. If you so wish, you may serve on the court or as a character at the ball. You will be notified of the meetings so that you can have a voice in the planning of events.
With that being said, all you need to do is fill out the Membership Application and mail your dues into the Arnaudville Area Chamber of Commerce at the above address and you are all set. You will receive notifications by mail or email, which ever you prefer and if you have any other questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (337)754-5316. |
